Let’s get real

THE five things you NEED TO know about me

ONE

I was born and grew up on the Dutch Caribbean island of Curaçao that I moved back to after 5 years of studying and city life in the Netherlands. To me, Curaçao is everything. Home, love and family. Living on an island is more than just white sandy beaches and sunshine. Curaçao has so much to offer and thats what I started to appreciate more and more during my time living in Europe. Highlighting these beautiful elements of Curaçao has been a passion of mine for the past couple of years, and I will forever do my part to continue putting our little island on the map

TWO

Yoga came into my life in 2013. It has helped me and shaped me into the person I am today. Becoming a certified yoga teacher wasn’t originally part of the plan but it went hand-in-hand with my love for sharing and helping others. Soon after moving back to Curaçao, I decided to use all the natural beauty we’re surrounded by as a backdrop to offer an unforgettable experience on the sea for both locals and tourists alike in the form of the island’s first floating yoga studio: Dushi SUP.

Fun fact: I am very sensitive to motion sickness, but it has never affected me while I’m on a SUP yoga board!

Three

I work around 70 hours a week, but wouldn’t have it any other way! From getting my BSc. in Architecture to teaching yoga, I did not think I would end up also running an espresso bar that quickly turned into a full service restaurant - but here I am doing just that. In fact, a little over 2 years ago I had no idea what entrepreneurship was and today I own 3 businesses: Liberty Yoga, Dushi SUP and Number Ten.

Another fun fact: I’m actually a real tea lover and have only started to love coffee about 3.5 years ago.

Four

@theislandbarista and I met at waterpolo and have been together for 10 years now. We have tackled moves across the Atlantic, explored new destinations across the globe, work together every day and now for our newest adventure: parenthood! Becoming a mom is something I’ll definitely be sharing more about as I learn and discover all facets about this new chapter in my life. Growing up with the endless love and support from my mom got me here. She’s the one person I can always count on and my number one supporter! She taught me what family is and this is what I’ll teach my daughter.

Five

To me home is not just a place, it's a feeling - one of comfort, warmth, and togetherness. The time I spend surrounded by family, friends and pets in turn makes way for fun stories that shed light on interiors, recipes and essentials that I come across on the daily.
