From exercise to lifestyle
I started practicing yoga for the physical benefits. About 3 years ago, I started this healthy lifestyle and was running about 3-4 times a week. I felt the need of stretching and downloaded a yoga app on my phone and started doing these crazy poses. What started as a physical practice once a week evolved into a daily practice of combining the body, mind and soul.
To me, yoga is a way of expressing myself. The time that I spend on the mat is my ‘me time’. On the mat I feel that I can connect with myself and by moving with the breath I try to align the body, mind and soul.
STRUGGLES OF LIFE
We all struggle with insecurities and so do I, but since I started practicing yoga I feel more comfortable in my skin and look at life differently. I always heard people saying that once you start practicing yoga, that you’ll take the things you learned on the mat, off the mat, butt things like this are hard to believe until you start noticing it for yourself. After a few months of practice I started looking at things differently, I became more aware of my actions and tried to vibrate more positive energy.
Since a year, I’ve been practicing yoga every day. I made it a priority and tried to fit it into my busy schedule. I noticed that practicing 5x a week 15-30 minutes worked better for me then 1-2x a week a 90 min practice. My body responded great to the workouts and I noticed progress rapidly. Lets be honest, not everything happens overnight. So just like all other things, yoga is something you’ll have to work on consistently and use your full body awareness.
WHAT DOES IT DO FOR YOU?
Yoga is good in so many ways. There are so many benefits of practicing yoga, here is just a short list. Very often, yoga is seen as a physical exercise (the asana practice) with only benefits for your body, but there's so much more to yoga than only asana practice. Regular yoga practice will help you unite the body, mind and breath. Just give it a try and start wherever you are. Its important to appreciate your own body and work with what you got. Listen to your body and see what works for you.
Since I finished my Teacher Training in Thailand, I not only know more about yoga, but I also started enjoying sharing it with others.
